If you know Alex, you know how lucky we are to have him in our lives. You know that he is a Senior at Middlebury High School. You know that he’s a well-liked member of the staff at Green Pepper’s Restaurant. You know that Alex enjoys photography and is pursuing the culinary arts (much to the delight of those he cooks for!) What you may not know is that Alex needs our help. Alex was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at the age of seven. He was only expected to live for another five years. Instead, Alex amazed us all by not only continuing to be a part of our lives, but to turn 17 just this past year in defiance of all expectations. Time has passed, but Alex stayed with us. One day at a time has never meant so much. If you don’t know Alex, we can assure you he is all of these wonderful things. We’re blessed to have him with us, and we hope that he can continue to enrich our lives. However, just this past weekend Alex fell seriously ill. He’s currently in the intensive care unit at Fletcher Allen Hospital. Alex has a new and frightening additional diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), and has developed serious strep/blood infections that have left him incredibly ill and immunocompromised. The doctors are doing everything they can, but there is something we can do. Alex and his family need help! This page has been created in order to keep you informed of Alex’s condition and progress, as well as to accept donations on his behalf. All donations are being collected in a trust, specifically to help him in this difficult time. Alex’s mother, April, owns the Manestream Salon in Middlebury, VT. As a local business owner, she has been a valuable addition to the community. It’s important for you to know that April’s talented stylists are filling in and keeping the salon fully operational while she takes a leave of absence to be with her son. While we understand that people choose April specifically for her amazing talent, please understand that we have total confidence in those that are taking her appointments in her stead. It’s also important to know that keeping your appointment actually helps April and Alex. Manestream is the family’s sole source of income, and without your continued patronage the situation will become more difficult for everyone involved. As the situation develops, we will update this page with information as well as the Facebook Page “For Alex”. Please keep Alex in your positive thoughts and prayers. If you can help via a donation, please know you have our most sincere appreciation. Please feel free to leave Alex and his family a note of encouragement on the Facebook Page we have created on his behalf. We will post updates on his condition and make sure he gets all your kind words. |
